Position Summary for Information and Referral Specialist

Status: Non-Exempt
Hours: 10-13 hours/week
Salary: $11.00/hr
Location: Sacramento, CA

Description: The Information and Referral Specialist (I and R Specialist) is responsible for performing general office duties, greeting consumers and referring them to community resources as appropriate, and will work to support staff members as needed.

Reports to: Program Manager

About Resources for Independent Living

The mission of RIL is to promote the socio-economic independence of persons with disabilities by providing peer-supported, consumer-directed independent living services and advocacy. The focus of RIL is that freedom to make choices and the ability to live safely in the community are basic rights all people have, regardless of disability or age.

Job Responsibilities/Duties

• Answers phones, directing callers to appropriate staff and/or providing information and referrals when requested and if appropriate.
• Practices excellent telephone etiquette with clear, precise communication skills.
• Greets consumers and provides initial information/intake when appropriate.
• Provides services to consumers on the phone, in person, or at functions.
• Participates in community outreach, education, and special events.
• Ensures that office equipment and facility are well maintained, and systems kept up to date.
• Provides back up support to staff: data entry and typing services when needed.
• Documents each call from consumers in the agency database.
• Attends training sessions and staff meetings as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

Ability to perform listed duties, allow for flexibility in scheduling and prompt arrival when scheduled for work. Computer skills proficient in MS Word, Excel, and a standard Data Base program. Functional skills operating standard office equipment and type 35 wpm.
