Training and Events

Advocating in our world is what we do. Before we can organize in our community, we must become organized ourselves. The members of CFILC collaborate together to help put on a number of trainings and events throughout the year. Our trainings are informative and empowering, and our events can be fun and make a direct impact to those around us.

Date: September 28 to September 30, 2018 • 9:00am (PST)

Attention systems change advocates and community organizers!

Join us for a 3-day summit designed to:

• Refresh and reignite passion to better serve the needs of our disability community;
• Build organizing skills, strategies and tactics;
• Increase our leadership skills through team building.Summit

Participants will be provided with:

• An energizing and accessible facility surrounded by magnificent vistas, valleys and meadows;
• Shared cabins with multiple participants;
• Meals in a spacious dining hall; Reasonable accommodations upon request.
• Accessible transportation to Grizzly Creek Ranch from the Sacramento airport, train station and CFILC office.

This is a CFILC Membership exclusive webinar. Membership will be verified prior to the event.

Alice Wong of the Disability Visibility Project will host a workshop on storytelling and disability advocacy exclusively for CFILC members. Participants will learn the following:

• Elements of a good story
• Different formats for stories and how to create them
• Integrating storytelling from members of your community with your ILC's issues and advocacy priorities
• Engaging with your community and the public with social media
• Tips on getting your story out there

Beyond the Rhetoric, Making it Real Emergency Management Logo of Beyond the Rhetoric, Making it Real Emergency Management

Date: October 28 to October 28, 2018 • 10:00am (PST)

Prioritizing the critical elements needed by Independent Living Centers when planning for and providing services during, before and after a disaster.

Each CFILC member center will receive 1 free registration. Members are encouraged to bring additional staff members to the training. The cost per additional staff member is $60.00.

Reminder - The CFILC Fall Statewide Meeting will take place at the same location Monday and Tuesday after the training.
