Position Summary for Device Lending & Demonstration Centers Manager

Status: Exempt
Hours: Full-Time
Salary: $51,000 - $60,000 /yr DOE
Location: Sacramento, CA

Description: Under the direction of the Program Director, the Device Lending & Demonstration Center (DLDC) Manager is responsible for managing as well as implementing the programmatic and administrative responsibilities associated with the operation of the Statewide Assistive Technology Device Lending & Demonstration Centers. This includes the administration of assistive technology demonstrations, short-term and long-term assistive technology loans; management of the Device Lending and Demonstration Centers (DLDC) contracts; providing public awareness; training; technical assistance; and information and referral activities related to AT access and acquisition. The Manager is responsible for online equipment inventory, compliance with all administrative policies and procedures, as well as supervising the AT Access and AT Acquisition Program Coordinators.

The Device Lending Demonstration Manager is a leadership position within CFILC that will be required to provide ongoing reporting, tracking, meet program deliverables and provide one-on-one assistance to each contracted DLDCs and Assistive Technology community partners. The position will include travel within the state of California as well as occasional out of state travel to meet program needs.

This is full-time non-exempt position based in Sacramento, CA. This is a grant funded position contingent upon continued funding

Job Responsibilities/Duties

Major Responsibilities:
• Designs, delivers, and evaluates engaging and informative workshops and training sessions to a wide variety of constituents serving individuals with disabilities, their family members, and support network of educators, vocational rehabilitation personnel, case managers, other students, community members, administrators, and policymakers.
• Responds to DLDC and all additional AT program inquiries in a timely, thorough, and respectful manner.
• Works with individuals with disabilities, family members and those who support them in the identification of AT that can help them meet the demands placed upon them in their environments and live comfortably, independently and safely in their community of choice.
• Conducts objective device demonstrations and comparisons, paying detailed attention to the consumer's expressed needs, wants, and preferences.
• Facilitates efficient and appropriate short-term AT equipment loans, ensuring that all borrowing procedures are followed and that consumers have enough information about the equipment they are borrowing that they can derive maximum benefit from the trial use experience
• Participates in outreach activities, including exhibits, health fairs, media events, etc.; develops accessible materials in support of AT awareness and outreach; represents Ability Tools and CFILC at various community and/or community meetings; promotes existing and new initiatives.
• Maintains awareness of latest AT devices and services in collaboration with CFILC communications team to inform future purchases/contractual services, and coordinates with DLDCs and AT community partners/subcontractors regarding ordering of materials, supplies, and equipment.
• Organizes, facilitates and manages the DLDC monthly meetings, community of learning, and support listserv to build capacity of the AT community partners/subcontractors.
• Recognize own skills and knowledge regarding technology and has the ability to network to find support and assistance to expand knowledge for all to benefit.
• Maintains an individual professional development guide to ensure the acquisition of knowledge and skills about new developments in technology as they become available.
• Complies with ethical, legal, and human rights issues related to technology use and disability rights.
• Participates in development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, objectives, short and long-range planning; collaborates with other program staff in strategic planning, cultivation of partnerships, and development and implementation of programmatic initiatives with CFILC team members;
• Supervises the AT Access and AT Acquisition program coordinators and work in collaboration with staff assigned to the Ability Tools program, which includes work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and provides recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve efficient productivity and impactful performance.
• Collaborates with CFILC staff to raise awareness and promote utilization of AT throughout organization, other program activities, community outreach efforts, and direct service initiatives across the state (i.e., ADRC; Disability Disaster Access & Resources; No Wrong Door initiatives, etc.).
• Assist in expanding the Ability Tools program and its reach to under and unserved populations as specified in the Assistive Technology State Plan.
• Performs other job duties as assigned.

Reporting:
• Tracking and reporting activities include preparing monthly reports and invoices of DLDCs and AT subcontractors' expenditures and activities for management review as well as approval of payment;
• Tracking, preparing and presenting AT access and acquisition program activities for the quarterly reports for the Assistive Technology Advisory Committee with CFILC management team;
• Tracking and preparing program activities to report in the AT annual progress report;
• Tracking and preparing AT access and acquisition program activities success stories as well as challenges to share with the AT network for program improvement;
• Monitoring and reporting AT staff performance and program activities.

Social Media
• Assist in creating content to post on Ability Tools social media platforms that highlight AT access and acquisition program activities, events, and latest AT to promote the Ability Tools program.
• Support the CFILC communications team with drafting blogs and tip sheets on AT.

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with three - five (3 - 5) years of professional level experience within the fields of assistive technology, public health, human services, special education, rehabilitation services, INCLUDING two (2) year or more in a program serving people with disabilities, AND knowledge in the Assistive Technology and disability rights field; OR
• Six (6) or more years of professional level experience in the broad field of Independent Living Center (ILC) services, public health, human services, special education, rehabilitation services, or assistive technology, INCLUDING one (1) year or more in a program serving people with disabilities, AND two (2) years' knowledge in the Assistive Technology.
• Experience and knowledge in project and program management;
• Experience and knowledge in personnel management;
• Knowledge of assistive technology devices, accessible documents; accessibility standards, and relevant applications;
• Knowledge of supportive decision-making processes;
• Understanding of Independent Living philosophy and consumer control;
• Ability to initiate projects and work with minimal supervision;
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize competing demands and handle strict deadlines;
• Possess excellent listening, writing and verbal communication skills;
• Strong ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people and communities;
• Comfortable giving presentations and public speaking;
• Availability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends;
• Experience working with underserved communities;
• Knowledge of AT devices such as computer hardware and software, augmentative communication devices, devices for those with sensory disabilities, tools for activities of daily living, and mobility equipment.
• Computer skills in both Macintosh and Windows platforms, including the ability to complete basic troubleshooting and repairs of both platforms.
• Skill in facilitation, consultation, collaboration, and customer service orientation.
• Experience designing and delivering training for professionals, individuals with a range of disabilities, and family members.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual English/Spanish;
• American Sign Language
• Personal experience with a disability;

Other Information

WORK (OFFICE) ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level of the office is low to medium and work is in an office environment and mostly indoors.
