Position Summary for Graphic & Web Designer

Status: Non-Exempt
Hours: Full-Time
Salary: $50,000 - $55,000
Location: Sacramento, CA

Description: Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Graphic and Web Designer is responsible for graphic and web design with front and back-end development. This position will lead and assist with a variety of projects and initiatives designed to optimize CFILC's multiple websites, outreach and marketing materials as well as creative media design projects. This position is responsible for working on front-end technologies and be expected to learn and manipulate exiting source code back-end. This position will work closely with staff to update website content and assist in the design and development of websites and graphic design assets such as: email marketing templates, banners, display ads, registration pages, event landing pages, flyers, posters, booklets, databases, etc. Candidate must be proficient in multi-platform environments and up-to-date with social media techniques. This is an hourly, full-time position located in downtown Sacramento, CA. Telecommuting is not an option.

Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Work with the CFILC management and staff to keep websites up-to-date;
  • Maintain, update and develop content on existing websites;
  • Change site layout structure using style sheets and effects;
  • Create (accessible) graphics to be used within sites;
  • Create and/or modify and make accessible documents;
  • Image enhancement, creation and manipulation;
  • Optimize websites for use within search engines;
  • Assist in the design of graphics for marketing material (flyers, posters, brochures);
  • Have a clear understanding of web accessibility and 508 standards;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

  • Certificate or Diploma in Digital Design or related major from an accredited college or design/art school;
  • 2-3 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Exceptional abilities in design, typography, and layout.
  • Ability to properly hand-code HTML & CSS
  • Knowledge and implementation of PHP, MySQL, jQuery, HTML 5, CSS3, UI development, and website template development;
  • Expert in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat Pro, and preferred IDE;
  • Ability to work independently and under the Executive Director;
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands and handle multiple deadlines;
  • Possess excellent listening, writing and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong organizational skills with extreme attention to detail.
  • Knowledge and practice of basic accessibility standards for the web (WAI and Section 508);
  • Create PDFs in Acrobat Pro with tagging and meet accessibility standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual, English/Spanish;
  • Experience working with WordPress or other third-party blog sites;
  • Expertise in back-end programming with PHP, MySQL, and database management;
  • Experience in working with people with disabilities;
  • Personal experience with disability;
  • Knowledge of Independent Living Philosophy;
