Position Summary for Program Director

Status: Exempt
Hours: Full-Time
Salary: $57,000 – $67,000 D.O.E.
Location: Sacramento, CA

Description: Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Program Director is responsible for the oversight of 3 to 6 programs at CFILC and the supervision of up to 10 personnel. Works in collaboration across all CFILC programs to promote and integrate assistive technology, community organizing and advocacy. Works in partnership with Creative Media and Communications to promote programs externally.

This position is responsible for the growth and development of CFILC programs which are federally, state and foundation funded. Using a strong sense of disability history and culture, infuse Independent Living Philosophy into program design and delivery. This position is responsible to prepare program reports for funders and external communications.

Job Responsibilities/Duties

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

  • Work with the CFILC Management Team (Executive Director, Deputy Director and Director of Administration & Accounting) to monitor program expenditures and ensure that funds are expended as planned and program goals are met;
  • Supervise, support, motivate and evaluate up to employees in a team environment to ensure that all program goals and activities are met in the timeframe expected;
  • Ensure that all program requirements are met as set forth by our funders;
  • Prepare detailed program reports for CFILC’s executive committee and program funders at regularly scheduled timeframes.
  • Oversee Requests for Proposal (RFP) development, distribution and evaluation for assigned programs requiring services of outside contractors;
  • Identify and respond to funding opportunities in collaboration with Executive Director, that are in alignment with the growth of CFILC programs;
  • Plan and facilitate trainings using knowledge of effective delivery methods including adult education practices;
  • Develop trainings and adapt existing trainings that are audience-specific and accessible;
  • Prepare and monitor budgets for assigned programs;
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualification Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree AND three years successful project management experience in a disability-related area OR a combination of seven years’ experience in a disability service position and program management.
  • Must have experience working with people with disabilities, preferably the use of independent living philosophy and disability rights;
  • Must have strong record of supervisory experience, including hiring, supporting, motivating, evaluating and terminating personnel;
  • Knowledge and experience of disability community, disability culture, accessible communications, assistive technologies and disability related resource networks;
  • Experience providing reasonable accommodations to staff with a variety of disabilities;
  • Experience grant writing for federal, state and foundation funding;
  • Strong track record of development and delivery of training curriculums in an adult learning environment;
  • Strong meeting facilitation skills;
  • Must possess high level computer skills including the use of the Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Must be extremely organized and self-directed;
  • Possess excellent listening, writing and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds;
  • Ability to collaborate, work as part of a team and work with numerous network partners;
  • Ability to handle multiple deadlines, solve problems and identify appropriate alternatives;
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual, English/Spanish;
  • Experience in the area of assistive technology;
  • Experience with community organizing and advocacy strategies;
  • Experience providing webinar trainings;
  • Experience with concept and content development of websites, brochures and outreach materials, and annual reports.
